Summary for Thursday May 31st

Dodgers 4 – Washington Nationals 11 – Oh My god… Broxton gets rocked again.

Angels 2- Baltimore Orioles 6 – Escobar not as sharp & no Angels attack

Kobe and the Lakers… The fallout.

Dodgers Lose 11 – 4 to the Washington Nationals

  • This was very depressing. I kinda figured Hendrickson would struggle again like he has his last 3 outings. But it was also the Washington Nationals, so he should have been able to do better than this.
  • From bad to worse. Brazoban who just came back off of Tommy John surgery felt something in his shoulder and had to leave the game, after giving up a hit to close the books for Hendrickson.
  • From worse to devastating. Big John Broxton came on in the 8th inning with the team down by two runs. Like the last time this happened, which was a non save situation, he got torched for 5 ER. Today was just as bad, he ended up giving up 4 ER in 0.2 IP. It has to be something about closers and setup men, that when they don’t have to protect a lead they just don’t have that “edge”. Eric Gagne used to do the same thing, and Saito has done that a couple of times this year too.

Angels Lose 6 – 2 to the Baltimore Orioles

  • I’m gonna admit I didn’t watch this game, and I’m not gonna spend that much time on it. So I can talk about the Kobe thing instead. I was gonna say Kelvim pitched well, but as soon as I wrote that down, he gave up a few runs. He pitched into the 8th inning though.

Fantasy Stats of the Day (for my Fantasy Baseball team)

(Good)

Billy Wagner (1.0 IP, 0Hits, 2 Ks , 1SV) – Joe Smith got the Hold. I’ve been trying to find out who the setupman for the Mets is, and I guess maybe we’ve found him. Wagner then comes in and gets the save. Thank you Billy the Kid.

Travis Hafner (2/3, 4RBI, 2 BB) – What a monster game for the guy not just myself but the Indians need to rely on. The only problem as you will see below is that the pitcher he owned was none other than the guy I played today Justin Verlander. Oh the insanity…

(Bad)

Justin Verlander (5.0 IP, 8 Hits, 7 ER, 3 BB, 6 Ks) – Ouch is all I can say. I’ve been saying that he’s been consistently giving up 2 to 3 earned runs every game, and I was hoping for him to change that. Yea it changed all right, the wrong way.

Jeff Kent (0/4 …) – Man Jeff had some chances to drive in runs too. Critical runs, and he swings at the first pitch and pops it up to center field. Yeah I know its wrong to ask a guy to take pitches, and he’s been heating up home run wise, but that was kinda sad…

Outlook for tomorrow:

Tomorrow I cheer for the Indians as Fausto Carmona pitches. He had an OK outing in Detroit last Sunday, so I hope he can do even better being at home. And boy am I gonna need it as my ERA is going to sky-rocket after tonight’s events.
