Summary for June 2nd.
Dodgers 1 – Pittsburgh Pirates 3 – Could not get to Mr. Snell…
Angels 7 – Baltimore Orioles 4 – Saunders back for spot start is great.
Ducks 3 – Senators 5 – Home ice still prevails so far…
I missed posting this for yesterday as I was busy messing with my Anime blog. Dodgers and Angels did win yesterday, Russell Martin and Gary Mathews Jr. with the big hits to win for each team. John Lackey is the 1st 9 game winner in baseball.
Dodgers Lose 1 -3 to the Pittsburgh Pirates
- Hong-Chih Kuo started for the first time this season. He had a really rough first inning that turned out to be the difference in the game. Settled down after that. All he has to do is throw strikes. I know that seems cliche but for Kuo he has such an electric fastball for a left hander. He just has to challenge the opposing hitters and he will do fine. The first inning he was a bit wild and that apparently was enough to cause him a chance at a victory.
- That being said he pitched pretty darn good giving up only 2ER. The offense on the other hand just could not get to Ian Snell. Same thing happened when he pitched to the Dodgers earlier in the season. Snell has a pretty good ERA so it was kind of coming.
- Bright spot for the Dodgers was Tony Abreu who went 3/4, the 3 hits off of Snell. Pretty solid base hits too. Jeff Kent is really struggling right now. I think he’s pressing to hit home runs. He’s gotten a lot of warning track fly ball outs during this slump. I think he needs to go back to hitting singles and doubles. The HRs will come. Of course Kent doesn’t need me to tell him that. He’ll probably get a day off tomorrow.
- Oh yea the title is 3 way tie in the NL west. I know its so soon to be thinking about this, but the way things are going its going to be like this for the rest of the season. Most people think that Arizona is too young and will probably drop off near the end. But the Padres and Dodgers will be fighting it out till the end.
Angels Win 7 – 3 against the Baltimore Orioles
- Joe Saunders comes back to pitch in a spot start for the slightly weary Bartolo Colon. Hopefully Colon will be able to make his next start, but man look at Saunders. He has been pitching well at AAA Salt Lake, and was able again to have a great outing, giving up 2 ERs in the 2nd inning, and over all 4 hits 3 BBs in 6 IP.
- Of course the reason why I bring this up is because Mr. Ervin Santana is out there pitching like a Cy Young candidate while at home, but blowing up on the road. You have a guy like Saunders who is proving to be consistent, not to mention he’s a left handed pitcher. Angels are in a nice predicament to be in with the surplus of not only pitching but hitters as well. Who knows, the way the prized possession Jered Weaver is pitching, maybe Saunders takes his spot instead. Jered get rid of that cursed number already and go back to the one you had last year. You got germs from your brother Jeff!
- Speaking of surplus. Kendrick gets a day off to reflect on his slump since coming back from the DL. Erick Aybar steps in and got a key hit to tie up the game early on. Garret Anderson is said to be returning to the team on Monday. Manager Mike Scioscia had said that he will be keeping Willits in the lineup anyway he can. So of course that means less time for Shea Hillenbrand.
- The day I accidentally don’t play Napoli and he comes up big again. 2/3 with a big 2 run home run. This is becoming a bit of a curse for me. Eric Chavez hit a home run today too and I didn’t play him either…
Ducks lose 5 – 3 to the Senators
- I didn’t get to watch the game today as we went out to dinner. I guess that’s why they lost =x
- I did catch a couple of minutes in a wild sequence during the 2nd period where the Ducks just scored to take a 2-1 lead. Then like 40 seconds later the Senators got a goal to tie it up on what they called a “fast break face off” or something like that. Something new that was implemented in the new rules after the strike. Anyway it was crazy because the Senator player won the face off, passed it off to a guy behind him and he hit a slap shot all the way near the blue line and got it passed 4 duck players 2 of his own teammates and then passed Giguere. That big line of players were in the way and Giggy couldn’t see the puck.
Fantasy Stats of the Day (for my Fantasy Baseball team)
(Good)
Hideki Okajima (1.1 IP, 0 Hits, 1 K, 1 Win) – Nice. The Bo Sox come back against the Yankee Bullpen and Okajima is the benefactor of that.
Travis Hafner (2/4, 1 RBI, 1 BB) – Hopefully starting to heat up again. I would have put Mike Napoli’s line here except I didn’t play him today. =/ The problem was that when I woke up, the Mets game already started… damm east coast early starts.
(Bad)
No bad Pitching today for a change.
Jeff Kent (0/4 …) – I can stick with Jeff Kent since I just copy and pasted this from my last entry. I already stated above what I feel is going on with Kent.
Outlook for tomorrow:
Tomorrow is Oliver Perez vs Doug Davis. Perez has been the man this year for not just me, but the Mets. Lets hope it continues… Brad Penny for the Dodgers vs Tom Gorzelanny. I was looking at that name and thinking man that is probably hard to spell, but look it’s spelt like it sounds. Kind of like my last name too. Mr. Gorzelanny has an even better ERA than Mr. Snell, so its gonna be another tough one for the Dodgers and its a day game too (10:05 start in the west coast)… I brought up Ervin Santana. well he goes tomorrow @ home and a Day game. That means he’s gonna be lights out. You can almost count on that…
