Summary for Monday June 4th
Dodgers 6 – Pittsburgh Pirates 5 – The two faces of Lowe… more on that in a sec
Ducks 3 – Ottawa Senators 2 – Nice ending there to take a commanding 3 -1 lead
Angels 16 – Minnesota Twins 1 – Dominating Weaver?!?!, 20+Hits raining down!
Dodgers win 6 – 5 against the Pittsburgh Pirates
- Oh man the two sides of Derek Lowe tonight. As the catch title says, he flirted, FOR 7 INNINGS!!, with a No hitter. So yea that was pretty awesome. The thing was when it finally got taken away, things kind of went crashing down. I mean it started out being a 5 – 0 game. An inning latter it was 6 – 4. So he ended up giving up 4 ER and actually raising his ERA again. Yeah baseball is a tough sport. They asked Russ Martin about it and he said that he thinks that Derek loss some focus after he gave up that hit to Sanchez to break up the no hitter. That’s the thing about Derek Lowe, when he loses that focus and concentration he can turn into a bad pitcher. But when he has that concentration you see the no hit stuff. Now he’s not a young pup, the guy has a no hitter already so…
- Turns out “that man’s home run” was the difference in the game again. Who could I possibly be talking about other than Russell Martin. Okay guys get voting, I know Charlie Steiner started going on the box and started calling out for votes the second Martin hit it out.
- Now to why Martin’s homer was the difference in the game. Obviously Jonathan Broxton had a little adrenaline flowing. He hit 100 mph! I’m not sure if the gun was fast but wow. He wasn’t missing by much, I think that umpire probably couldn’t see the ball because it was so fast. So he made it a bit interesting in the 9th for his first save of the season. Good job, I know it was going to be a bit rough. Now that he has that out of the way he can go back to work. But Saito get well soon!
Ducks win 3 – 2 against the Ottawa Senators
- Again I didn’t catch the whole game, just the 3rd period. My dad is apparently into it now, and he was listening to the game on the radio on the drive home. Said the Ducks were down early, but a momentum switch when they were penalty killing 3 vs 5 gave em a wake up call. After the penalty kill they scored almost immediately.
- I didn’t catch the winning goal but I saw the end of the game where Ottawa was desperately trying to score. They went empty net and when that happens you have to admit you get one of the most exciting minutes in all of sports period. The fact that its 6 on 5 + the goalie makes it a rush when those guys are trying to score, and when the puck gets cleared there’s no one there guarding the net for the opposition.
- One more win and the Ducks bring a championship to So Cal. Wow we weren’t expecting this. Well truth be told we all were. Everyone said from the start of the season the Ducks would be there contending. Its just they get no publicity and we were watching the mentally ill Lakers instead.
Angels win 16 to 1 against the Minnesota Twins
- Jered Weaver pitched well. Well finally I say! Hopefully he can continue to do so. Again my fantasy baseball curse. I don’t play a guy and whoops he has an outstanding game. Yes you can send your thanks to me.
- Napoli is on a bit of a home run tear. He did this when he first came up last year too. So he definitely has the power. Keep it up!
- G.A. and Kendrick still struggling a bit.
- (edit) Ok I admit I was writing this as of the 7th inning. I walk out to watch the game and OC gets another base hit. WOW!(edit edit) Ok they just loaded the bases and Sgt Mathews Jr. hits a GS(Grand Slam.) Then G.A. goes back to back jack on this Miller guy. Ouch no outs 5 ER… (edit edit edit) Ok.. he can’t get out of the inning… 16 to 1 now. Serves me right for trying to write this blog before the game is over…..
Fantasy Stats of the Day (for my Fantasy Baseball team)
(Good)
Derek Lowe (7.2 IP, 3 Hits, 4 ER, 1BB 6Ks) – Talked about it above already
Orlando Cabrera (4/5, 2 RBI, 4Runs) – Oh man O.C. said he went back to watch old tapes of him playing in Montreal. Well damm he’s playing like he was back in Montreal. This was the dangerous hitter I saw in the National League back then when the Dodgers had to go up to that dome.
(Bad)
JonathanBroxton (1.0 IP, 2Hits, 1 BB, 1ER, 1 SV) – Talked about it above already
Johnny Damon (0/4) – Ah I shoulda played Nady instead. He hit a 2 run shot off of Lowe. I was thinking about it, but then I saw Nady’s history was 1 for 7. Well its 2 for 8 now with a 2run home run…
Outlook for tomorrow:
Going to be a quiet day tomorrow for me I think. Dodgers go to San Diego and Jason Schmitt is back! Lets see how that works out against Chris Young. I better bench my Dodger hitters tomorrow … Escobar for the Angels. I didn’t get to say this yesterday but the Angels got lucky not having to face Johan Santana as he pitched against Oakland on Sunday. Also Joe Mauer doesn’t come back off the DL till friday. Lucky Angels. gotta beat them while they are down.
